The North American Centre for Integrated Care (NACIC)

The North American Centre for Integrated Care is an extra-departmental unit (EDU-D) at the University of Toronto dedicated to advancing integrated care across North America. Focused on improving population health, NACIC works to enhance the capacity of individuals and organizations by creating and sharing knowledge about integrated care. By connecting communities across Canada and beyond, we aim to foster collaboration among decision-makers, researchers, clinicians, administrators, people with lived experience, and their communities. Through a growing network and hub, NACIC facilitates access to scientific literature, cross-national comparisons, and internal benchmarking, helping to drive policy improvements and informed decision-making in integrated care.

VISION: Improved population health and wellbeing through integrated, people-centered care.

MISSION: Synthesize existing knowledge and engage a broad audience around the evidence they need to achieve integrated care and contribute to better population health and wellbeing.

NACIC's Objectives

  • Promote the advancement and adoption of integrated care practices across North America using principles of co-design
  • Celebrate and showcase ongoing integrated care initiatives throughout North America
  • Facilitate collaborative learning among academics, researchers, clinicians, policymakers, and service users through knowledge exchanges, research initiatives, blogs, webinars, and forums
  • Align and link efforts from key organizations that are working to achieve greater collective impact
  • Foster international collaboration and knowledge exchange around best practices in integrated care
  • Engage with audiences to understand their evidence needs, then synthesize and translate knowledge into accessible, actionable insights
  • Provide coaching and mentoring opportunities to build skills and capacity around integrated care

NACIC: Part of the International Integrated Care Movement

NACIC has advanced integrated care since 2019, growing from the International Foundation for Integrated Care (IFIC) Canada Hub. The centre focuses on building relationships to advance population health locally, nationally, and globally while expanding the North American integrated care community and developing research and practice guidance.

As a formal Extra Departmental Unit at the University of Toronto since 2024, NACIC supports academic knowledge creation and translation through webinars, virtual events, master classes, and North American conferences. Through our connection with IFIC, we provide global leadership in co-design with people with lived experience, caregivers, and citizens, along with expertise in evaluation, collective impact, transformation, and social change.
